At this virtual event, BYJU’S FutureSchool, students were given an opportunity to learn Coding and Math skills in this introduction to their Summer Space Program.


This virtual event had over 10,000 preregistered attendees. The theme was “The Importance of Dreaming Big” and featured former NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly and virtual emcee Joshua Seth.

BYJU’s invited Joshua Seth to be the Virtual Emcee for this highly attended online event. As the host, Joshua ensured a high-energy, smoothly run presentation. In consultation with the client, Joshua prepared a multifaceted approach that included prepared remarks, interview questions, interactive quizzes, and a Q&A segment with astronaut Scott Kelly. 

Scott Kelly is a veteran of four space flights. He commanded the International Space Station, was a pilot of Space Shuttle Discovery, and in 2015 set the record for the total accumulated number of days spent in space (the single longest space mission by an American astronaut).

As the event was about to begin, thousands of students came online at once and immediately began chatting with one another, which briefly overwhelmed the server. BYJU’s representative quickly texted Joshua and they agreed to skip the opening video and go live immediately with Joshua onscreen to address the issue head on. As it turns out, a very wise decision.

Joshua welcomed the students to the virtual event. Introduced himself as the host / emcee. And alerted them to the situation with the chat. Using humor and transparency, Joshua was able to diffuse the situation and move smoothly into the main event. The students turned their attention from texting one another to Joshua’s humorous presentation and although the chatting continued, it was was no longer at a level which could cause an issue.

As with all virtual events, having a virtual emcee who is experienced and flexible under pressure is like investing in an insurance policy for the client. The collaboration between BYJU’s and Joshua Seth as virtual emcee, with real time communication during this live program, kept things on track and at a high level of engagement throughout the event.
