Time Management Tools: Dictation Software

Want to write your own book quickly and easily? Then you’re gonna need the right tools for the job. There’s an old saying that you can’t chop down a tree with a hammer. You can try, but it’s not the right tool for the job, it’s gonna take you a really long time to do it.

Now I’m holding in my hands a noise cancelling headset from Planatronics. I’m gonna put it on, it might look a little silly but this is what I want to show you today.

I’ve just turned on dictation software. If you’ve never seen dictation software, what it’s doing is it’s taking the words that are coming out of my mouth and transcribing them onto the screen. This is a great tool for the job of writing.

People say to me all the time writing is hard. It doesn’t need to be hard. You need to have the right tools for the job. I was working with one of my coaching clients and she’s claiming that she needs to write things long form in order to get the words out on paper.

I’m telling her this is a huge waste of time because if you write things out long form then you’re not going to have anybody else able to type them up for you because they can’t read the chicken scratches that you made on the paper. So you have to sit there, decipher what you wrote, type it up, and it’s a huge waste of time.

And it’s not necessary. You can use something like this dictation software. So for her for and everybody else out there, this isn’t a shortcut, it’s enabling technology to leverage your value in life and make you more productive, more successful, and ultimately more profitable.

If I had to sit there and write things out long form and type them up and then edit them and post them on the web that would take an enormous amount of time. Instead I am actually having this dictated. I use I use a Mac so MacSpeech puts this program out called Dictate. On a PC you would use Dragon Naturally Speaking and it’s a great way to to use a tool to leverage what you’ve got into actual usable profitable products without wasting a lot of time doing it.

The same thing goes for anything in your life. Whatever it is that you want to do, however it is you want to improve your circumstance in life, you’ve gotta get the right education, training, tools, and techniques in order to make yourself competitive in the marketplace.

This is a wireless keyboard and that I use instead of the tiny keyboard on my laptop. This is a screen that’s plugged into my laptop. Does it cost a little bit of money for these tools? Yes! It’s called making an investment in yourself.

You have a limited amount of time, a limited amount of energy with which to be productive. It’s better to spend a little bit of money today and reap the rewards for a long time to come than waste your time with an inadequate tool now.

A laptop is a wonderful tool. I remember the days before laptops when you were tethered to a desk all day if you wanted to get anything done. Now your office is mobile but whenever my laptop is back on my desk at plug it into this monitor so I can see what the heck I’m doing without straining my eyes and having to take breaks more often than is otherwise necessary. And I use this

extended keyboard so that when I do type it can be done more quickly.

Anyway, really I just wanted to give you an example of how dictation software works for those of you that may have never seen it or considered using it before. It’s a wonderful tool for the job. And also explore this concept a little bit further.

Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish in your life. Make the investment in yourself and in the tools are necessary to increase your profitability and productivity in life so you can stop spending so much time and effort getting things done and instead do the work needs to be done, reap the rewards as quickly and effortlessly as possible, and go out and live your life.
