Put Down the Fork

Posted by: Joshua on

Today is Thanksgiving. Millions of Americans will eat, drink and be merry. It’s a wonderful holiday filled with family and fun for most of us.

Not soon after, it will be filled with regret at having eating so much we feel like we’re going to burst open at the seams!

Here’s a quick tip to help you before that happens: Whenever food is in your mouth, don’t have food in your hands. Chew, swallow, and then load up the fork with another mouthful.

It’s a simple thing to do. When you do it, you’ll find that you’re more aware of every bite of food. It will slow down your rate of eating too which is better for your digestion.

Oftentimes, we race through bite after bite, loading up the fork with food and shoveling in our mouths before we’ve even had a chance to swallow. This kind of mindless is much less satisfying than actually giving thanks for the food that we’re taking into our bodies and appreciating each bite.

So this Thanksgiving, eat slowly, eat mindfully, and put down the fork between every bite. You’ll thank me for it tomorrow :-)

All my best for a happy Thanksgiving with those you love.

This is actually a good tip! Helps us savour the food, and, as you said, aids digestion and makes sure we can’t eat as much.

I have tried this and found it does work – and it wasn’t even a holiday! At Thanksgiving, there’s usually a crowd so everyone’s busy talking or telling stories so the mouth IS kept busy with something other than the food. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving, a Happy Hanukah, and a Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the reminder!! Great tip to slow down between bites. I’m also trying to chew my food longer before swallowing & that also helps slow me down. I’m thankful to have met you & taken your seminar on the cruise!
With gratitude,
