Individuals Fighting Obesity

By Joshua

If you think it’s hard to lose those last 7 pounds, imagine if you had to lose 700! That’s what Manuel Urib is attempting to do and he’s well on his way to succeeding. Two years ago he weighed 1,235 pounds and held the Guinness Record for heaviest person.

He says that he gained the weight from eating junk food and soft drinks nonstop when he lived in the United Stated for a few years back in the late ’80s.

Now he’s been watching what he eats and has been steadily losing weight for the past 2 years. He’s already lost about 550 pounds!
550 pounds. Wow.

If my girlfriend had 4 twin sisters (now there’s a thought!) the equivalent of all 5 of them would have been in this guy’s belly before he started slimming down!

He still can’t get out of bed or move around. Reminds me of the mother character in the movie “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”. His next big goal is to be able to stand up at his wedding next year.

So the next time you feel like losing weight is too hard, think of Manuel. Can you get out of bed in the morning? Can you walk a little more each day? Manuel can’t and he’s already lost more than your entire body weight simply by sticking to his goal and achieving it bit by bit over time. If he can succeed in his weight loss goals, you can too.

I saw Manuel’s story a while back, too. It’s amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it. I’ve always said that it’s a mind thing. For me it is, anyway. Inspiring!

This man has my admiration. I know what it takes to lose a few pounds but losing 550 is unimaginable! What a source of inspiration he is.

This is an incredible story. I completely agree with Hope in that it’s so much more mental than anything else. His journey is going to be a successful one due to his positive mental state and proactive approach. He truly is an inspiring person and can teach us all a lesson that it’s never too late to give it your best! Go Manuel!
